Murdoch Johnson

A graduate of St. Olaf College, Murdoch Johnson has worked in research and program evaluation at a marketing firm since 1986 and now as a partner in UpFront Consulting. Prior to January 2001, he was research director at Meyer Marketing (now Agency 128) in St. Cloud. His work includes:

Designing and conducting quantitative research projects, including telephone, direct mail and on-line surveys.

Designing and completing qualitative research projects, including focus groups and one-to-one interviews.

Partnering in the design and administration of comprehensive, ongoing program evaluation projects.

He is a specialist in quantitative data analysis (using SPSS and other software) and reporting. His work has ranged from consumer research in the medical and financial industries, to program evaluation for organizations in the public sector.

Recent comprehensive evaluation projects have been conducted for Stearns County Family Services Collaborative, Stevens County Family Service and Children’s Mental Health Collaborative and Lutheran Social Services (Rock Sober evaluation). In education, he worked with St. Cloud Area School District 742 on three-year evaluations of the Elementary Counseling and Alternative Strategies grant programs. Current clients include community partnerships (Safe Schools, Healthy Students), District 742 (Project Reconnect), as well as the Supports for Stability and Sobriety and Healthy Moms/Healthy Children grant programs.

Research projects Murdoch has recently completed for non-profits and collaborative organizations include surveys for the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, Minnesota Chapter of MS Society and United Way of Central Minnesota.
Focus group research clients in non-profits and collaborative organizations include St. Benedict’s Senior Community, Stearns-Benton Employment & Training Council and West Central Initiative.

During the past ten years, Murdoch has presented workshop sessions and spoken on quantitative and qualitative research to professional organizations and graduate students. Since 1997, he helped design and present three workshops on survey research for St. Cloud-area non-profit organizations. In 2001, he designed and delivered a series of lunch-hour workshops on survey research for local organizations.
